Volunteer Projects

TrICA - Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts

In the spring of 2008 Cottage Gardeners participated in Windermere/Richard B. Smith's Community Service Project, contributing toward the redevelopment and revitalization of the old Immanuel Methodist Episcopal Church in Boise's Historic North End. We donated plants and labor in 2008 and again in 2009, to help enhance the exterior of the historic building and provide the public with a visible indication that the church is being given a new life.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building had fallen into serious disrepair in recent years, and was named one of Idaho's most endangered historic sites. Now, thanks to a successful, ongoing community fundraising and volunteer effort, spearheaded by Jon Swarthout and staff, and the help of businesses and community members, the church is undergoing a complete transformation. This magnificent edifice, with its space, light, and possibilities, will soon be home to the Heart Song Music Studio, an outdoor children's garden, a library brimming with the best in children's literature, performance stages, and studio space for visual arts, recording, puppet shows, storytelling, cooking, and more! It will be a cultural center for our neighborhood and surrounding community.

We are looking forward to the next step!
